Locally, a major project is underway to plan the redevelopment of Downtown Statesville and the Highway 115 corridor district to  enhance Statesville's core business, governmental and historical center. In 2008, the City of Statesville and the Downtown Statesville Development Corporation organized a Downtown Master Plan Committee to work on the redevelopment plan for Downtown Statesville and the Hwy. 115 corridor district. This group recently selected and began working with LandDesign, an urban design firm, to assist in the preparation of a Streetscape/Land Use Master Plan for both areas.
